Columbus, OH: Advocacy Work Actively Continues
Ed Sparks, Executive Vice President, continues to actively advocate for youth. In an article in the Columbus Dispatch on November 26, 2011, the National Youth Advocate Program was mentioned as opposing mandatory bindovers of juvenile offenders into the adult system. The advocacy efforts led to changes in Ohio’s sentencing laws in House Bill 86 which took effect on September 30.
Ed is a member of the Juvenile Justice Coalition (JJC) and they recently wrote a letter to the editor of the Columbus Dispatch regarding an article about the use of pepper spray on juveniles in Ohio’s youth prison system. The JJC advocates for increased safety and treatment outcomes for youth involved in the juvenile justice system.
